• Master’s Degree in another subject with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject, or English as the medium of examination at degree level.

• Master’s Degree in another subject with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or Hindi as the medium of examination at degree level.

• Master’s Degree in another subject with both Hindi and English as compulsory/elective subjects, or one as the medium of examination and the other as a compulsory/elective subject.

• In addition, candidates must have either a recognized Diploma/Certificate in Translation from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, or 2 years of translation experience in a Central/State Government Office, including Government of India Undertakings.
Senior Hindi Translator
Senior Translator / Senior Translation Officer
• The basic Master’s Degree requirements are similar to the Junior Translator posts, with Hindi and English language requirements as prescribed by SSC.

• Candidates must also have either a recognized Diploma/Certificate in Translation from Hindi to English and English to Hindi, or 3 years of translation experience in a Central/State Government Office, including Government of India Undertakings.

• The required educational qualification must be possessed on or before 01 August 2026.

SSC JHT 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Eligibility

  1. Candidates must hold the required Master’s Degree from a recognized University in Hindi, English or another eligible subject as specified by SSC.
  2. The candidate must also meet the required translation qualification or experience for the post applied for.
  3. The essential educational qualification must have been acquired by 01 August 2026.
  4. Candidates will have to produce original educational and other supporting documents during Document Verification when required by the concerned User Department.

Nationality / Citizenship

  1. The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from the countries specified in the official notification with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  2. Candidates belonging to categories that require an eligibility certificate must obtain the required certificate from the Government of India.

Important Qualification Requirement

  1. The final result of the qualifying examination must have been declared by the prescribed cut-off date.
  2. Simply having a qualification result under process on the cut-off date does not satisfy the educational qualification requirement.
  3. Degrees obtained through eligible Open and Distance Learning programmes are accepted subject to the conditions mentioned in the SSC notification.

SSC JHT 2026 Exam Pattern

The SSC Combined Hindi Translators Examination consists of two papers. Paper-I is an objective Computer Based Examination, while Paper-II is a descriptive paper based on translation and essay writing.

  • Paper-I Total: 200 Questions / 200 Marks.
  • Paper-I Duration: 2 Hours with a separate 1-hour timer for each language section.
  • Paper-II: 200 Marks and 2 Hours.
  • There is 0.25 marks negative marking for each wrong answer in Paper-I.
  • Candidates eligible for a scribe receive additional time as prescribed by SSC.

SSC JHT Paper-II Translation & Essay

Paper-II is a descriptive examination designed to check the candidate’s ability to translate and write effectively in both Hindi and English.

  • One passage will be given for Hindi to English Translation.
  • One passage will be given for English to Hindi Translation.
  • Candidates will also write an Essay in Hindi.
  • Candidates will also write an Essay in English.
  • The paper checks correct language use, translation ability, understanding and the ability to write clearly and precisely.

SSC JHT 2026 Selection Process & Qualifying Marks

  • Stage 1: Computer Based Examination (Paper-I).
  • Stage 2: Descriptive Translation and Essay Paper-II.
  • Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II on the basis of their Paper-I performance and applicable category-wise cut-offs.
  • The minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for other categories.
  • Final selection and allocation are based on performance in Paper-I and Paper-II along with the post and department preferences submitted by the candidate.
  • Document Verification is conducted by the concerned User Departments / Organizations after the final result.

SSC JHT 2026 Exam City / Centre Details

Candidates were required to choose examination centres while filling the online application form. SSC allows candidates to select up to three examination centres in order of priority. The Commission tries to allot a preferred centre, but it can add, cancel or change a centre when required.

Information about the examination timetable and the allotted City / Centre is uploaded on the SSC website around 10 days before the examination. Candidates should regularly check the official SSC website and the concerned Regional Office website for the latest city and centre information.

The Admission Certificate is normally made available for download a few days before the examination. Candidates must carry the required documents mentioned in the Admission Certificate while appearing for the examination.

How to Apply Online SSC JHT Recruitment 2026

1. Visit the official Staff Selection Commission website ssc.gov.in to access the online application system.

2. Candidates who have not created an OTR on the new SSC website must complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) before applying for the examination.

3. Open the Combined Hindi Translators Examination 2026 notification and read the eligibility and application instructions carefully.

4. Log in to the SSC account and enter your personal, educational and other required information correctly.

5. Select your preferred examination centres and complete the required application details.

6. Complete the live photograph and signature requirements according to the instructions displayed in the application module.

7. Pay the applicable examination fee through the available online payment methods, if you are not exempted from fee payment.

8. Preview the complete form carefully and submit the application. Save a copy of the submitted form and payment details for future reference.
